It looks Obvious: Adhere to the constituation? What the polls say?

    In American politics much too great an emphasis is put on the constitution (and unfortunately, as a result in our home country, much too great an emphasis is put on the lack of…). A "good" constitution can indeed provide good guidelines for government, but it has never enforced goodness on a bad government, nor has it prevented badness from a good one. Throughout history, American governments (and individuals) have been able to do much evil despite the constitution, and also do a lot of good regardless of it.   P.S. After having looked at Ron Paul's website for the first time (your encouragement, so you're to blame) I found it every bit as uninspiring as any other candidate website I've had displeasure of seeing. Nothing there but meaningless PR… With all your prase, I had hope. I wont let that happen again.

    I sincerely apologize for linking to the campaign site instead of the library, it is better than the "marketing" site - although I'm pretty sure you will not become a follower after visiting it :)
    As for the constitution - as the new President of Israel use to say "Yes, and No". The Soviet Union had a beautifully written constitution that was worthless, and so will the Iraqi constitution. On the other hand England managed to develop a democracy (which in my mind is better than the American version) without a constitution. However in the American case the constitution is very important - not always in real-time since it didn't prevent many injustices (Slavery will be the most famous one). But in the most part it is guide which help the system to correct itself (as it is happen now with the evil of "enemy combatant" . Moreover, it seems to me that for the American system, with its lack of subtlety, the constitution is crucial document.

    As for Israel, I think that an attempt to write a constitution now will be a disaster - So I guess we are in agreement on this issue.

    A constitution should not be parsed for success, as it should not be faulted for errors. People make mistakes, and it is they who fix them. If only you and I were the only Israelis, I think we'd be able to work things out... of course, I'd have to talk some sense into you first :)

    Talk some sense into me? My wife would suggest you to start with something easier, like bringing peace to the Middle-East... :)
